Description
Capital One's Commercial Bank contains an approximately $40-50B (exposure) loan portfolio that has grown by virtue of three acquisitions (North Fork, Hibernia, and Chevy Chase). It is a traditional Commercial Portfolio of C&I, CRE, Construction, and Small Business customers located primarily on the East Coast of the United States. The bank has a growing set of home grown Dual Risk Rating (DRR) models that it is continually enhancing and improving. These models are deployed to the underwriting and credit review teams via a centralized web-based risk rating platform. As these rating models are the foundation of the bank's credit risk management and pricing, Capital One is looking for a highly qualified candidate to take responsibility for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on the usage and results of these models to glean information on changes in portfolio risk and model usage.
Responsibilities:
1. Design, maintain, and work with data team to implement standard DRR reports for distribution to executive management and throughout the organization
2. Actively monitor reports and rating activity compared to model usage guidance and investigate deviations in usage or risk profile
3. Serve as data and reporting expert within DRR team to know what data is available, what analyses can be performed and to answer any questions regarding reports and analyses
4. Establish weekly activity reporting regimen for internal DRR to monitor rating activity and early warning indicators
5. Assist in creating, reviewing, and updating of model usage and override policy based on data analysis and trends
6. Provide feedback on potential improvements to rating platform and data structures
7. Actively partner with IT, data, and reporting teams to achieve goals
The Person
The successful candidate will be someone who can operate effectively in a matrixed environment, serving as the DRR data and reporting expert with the most up to date knowledge of risk rating usage and trends. He/she will be very organized and inquisitive and will exhibit very strong database, analysis, and report building skills. The ability to create reports and analyses that transform data into information and to convey that meaning to others is fundamental. To this end, a clear thought process and the ability to understand the business context and purpose of the DRR models are essential.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
n Bachelors degree in a financial or analytical discipline
n 2+ years of data analysis and reporting experience in finance, banking, risk, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
n Experience and familiarity with commercial banking, underwriting, and/or dual risk ratings
n 3+ years of data analysis and reporting experience in finance, banking, risk, or related field
n Bachelors degree in a financial or analytical discipline or MBA
n Excellent analysis, database, reporting, and organizational skills
n Very inquisitive nature with ability to proactively detect trends or anomalies and investigate
n Very strong communication and interpersonal skills
